Several Members of Parliament (MPs) have recently called for a ban on electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) in England. They want to look at all the evidence before deciding if the treatment is safe enough to keep using.

Some MPs are worried that some patients are not being given enough information about the risks of treatment, some are being treated without their knowledge or consent, and more women than men are receiving ECT.
