Life After ECT Inc. aims to improve the lives of those affected by electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) through advocacy, education, and research.

Here are our current initiatives:

Reporting Side-Effects to the FDA (Open)

Our goal is to support individuals and their families in reporting adverse effects of ECT to the FDA via MedWatch. With enough reports, we can help trigger an FDA investigation.

This could lead to actions that protect future patients and provide further support for those impacted by ECT. These reports are also invaluable for researchers and legal experts.

Check out our reporting guide.

Testing and Rehabilitation Research Initiative (Launching in 2025)

If you are interested in particpating in research that will help develop testing and rehabilitation protocols for those harmed by ECT you can sign up here.

Online ECT Courses (Future)

These courses are intended for ECT recipients, their family and friends and professionals who can advocate for people harmed by ECT.

Our goal is to provide comprehensive education on:

  • ECT history
  • ECT marketing and misinformation
  • The immediate and long-term risks of ECT
  • Getting help after being injured by ECT
  • Supporting a loved one affected by ECT
  • Advocacy skills for mental health and medical professionals supporting ECT recipients

If you have expertise in these areas and would like to contribute to our continuing education program, please contact us.
